Inspired by a true story, Smiley Pete, The Magnificent Moocher unfolds the remarkable story of a kind hospital orderly/entertainer and a stray dog who restore hope to a town hit hard by the loss of a regiment in World War II’s Bataan Death March. Presented at Freedomfest, a fundraiser for a Kentucky humane society, the story was initially written as a book to benefit homeless animals. Audiences have enjoyed the tales of this incredibly kind man and the magnificent moocher whose presence had such an impact on the town that still today there is a bronze plaque in the sidewalk with the dog’s picture (“Smiley Pete, Missed by All”).
Smiley Pete, The Magnificent Moocher unravels the colorful antics of a homeless dog who showed up on a town's street corner and made himself at home in a cardboard box for the next fourteen years - showering affection on all who happened to pass by his corner. The dog's kindness to street-persons as well as governors, orphans and race horse kings won him the town's heart.
